IDEAS: Training Individuals as Spiritual Guides in Spiritualism

In the realm of spiritualism, we’ve come to recognize a significant gap in our approach—one that has placed an excessive emphasis on the development of mediumship. While mediumship is undoubtedly valuable, it often leaves non-mediums and even mediums themselves longing for a deeper exploration of the spiritual aspects of their being.

The issue lies in the historical roots of our organization, which have leaned heavily towards mediumship development, often leaving the spiritual side undernourished. It’s clear that we need to evolve and adapt. Inspired by the guidance of Spirit, it is my belief that we should begin training individuals as spirit guides.

The term “spirit guides” is not unfamiliar to those in spiritualism; it’s commonly used to refer to entities from the spirit world who aid and support us. However, in this context, I propose a broader interpretation. We should consider the idea that individuals can serve as spirit guides while still in the realm of the living.

I personally identify with this concept, as my work primarily revolves around spirituality, assisting people in nurturing their spiritual essence, and illuminating the light within their souls. I view myself as a spirit guide, one who is still among the living. This perspective embodies the essence of what we need more of in our spiritualist community.

So, what does it mean to be a living spirit guide? It entails immersing oneself in the realms of spirituality and honing professional skills in spiritual counselling, guidance, and direction. Years of dedicated training allow one to accompany individuals or groups on their inner spiritual journeys.

Now, imagine combining mediumship with this concept. In spiritualism, we often engage with the spirit world, seeking guidance from our own spirit guides. By extending our training to become living spirit guides, we can offer a comprehensive approach. It won’t be just me guiding people on their spiritual paths; it will be me and my spirit guides, working in tandem to support others in their spiritual development.

This addition is what seems to be missing from Spiritualism today—a holistic training program for spirit guides. It has the potential to greatly enrich our community, complementing the existing mediumistic schools and offerings. Together, we can unlock new dimensions of spiritual growth and connection, bridging the gap that has been present for far too long.
